註疏 Commentary

The author of this book is Qian Yiqian 錢以塏 (1644-1732), from Jiashan 嘉善, Zhejiang Province, a literati and official in the Qing Dynasty who served as magistrate of Dongguan 東莞 and Maoming 茂名, the counties near Luofu Mountain. This book does not follow a standard format for mountain gazetteers, but is a collection of Luofu Mountain's landscape and various legends. Although the author has not visited Luofu Mountain personally, he has always admired it. In 1701, his father Qian Ying 錢煐 visited the mountain, and wrote an article "Luofu tushuo" 羅浮圖說 and drew twenty illustrations. Later, Qian Yiqian added fifty-eight articles and compiled this book as a guide about Luofu Mountain, by collecting previous local gazetteers and interviewing people who had climbed the mountain.

This version in Sandong shiyi is in the collection of the Shanghai Normal University Library, with two illustrations and some pages missing, and a summary from the Siku quanshu zongmu 四庫全書總目 is attached to the back of the text.

Luofu Mountain is a famous mountain in China, located in Guangdong Province. Zhuming Cave 朱明洞 in Luofu Mountain is the seventh cave in the Daoist Grotto-Heavens and Blessed Lands system 洞天福地. Ge Hong 葛洪 (284-363), a famous Daoist priest in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, once lived in seclusion in Luofu Mountain. So there is an article in the book called "Baopuzi waipian" 抱樸子外篇, which talks about Ge Hong's thoughts on mountain climbing and alchemy, as well as his experience in Luofu Mountain, but the text it quotes comes from the chapter "Jindan" 金丹 in Baopuzi neipian 抱樸子內篇. In addition, there are many Daoist temples in Luofu mountains, and some of the scenic spots are related to Daoism or Buddhism.
