A woman whose family name is Huang 黃 is a devout practitioner. As a result, she avoids misfortune and reincarnates as a man, winning the Imperial Examination as the first. Eventually, the man resigns his position and pursues immortality.

The shortened title of 黃氏卷 can be found at the center of each fold. In the preface, the title is 黃氏女卷. At the begining of the first volume (shangjuan 上卷), the title is 三世修道黃氏寶卷.
