There is a poor family with two sons. The elder son named Wang Ziqin 王子琴 has not returned since he went to take the imperial examination, and his wife woman Ding 丁 supports his parents. The younger son, Wang Zilian 王子連 is sent out to exchange a golden hairpin for money. But he gives the money to another poor man. His father is so angry that he sends his son to get the money back. The younger son leaves home again and this time he is lucky and marries a rich girl. While both sons are away from home, woman Ding has to beg in the streets to feed her in-laws. But her father-in-law hears slander about her and decides to remarry her. Ding cries out and is heard by a righteous thief called Yizhilan 一枝蘭. Yizhilan sends her a stolen painting and deceives her into believing that her husband has become an official. At the same time, the younger son Wang Zilian returns, and Ding sends Zilian to look for his older brother, taking the painting with him. On the way, an official sees the painting and arrests Zilian, believing him to be the thief. Eventually, the older brother, who has passed the exam, comes to rescue his younger brother and return home.

  • There is something in the title page in the top right. But i can not read it. And 一枝蘭寶卷's background is in 江南鎮江府丹徒縣.
  • The story in this edition is the same as in 白鶴圖寶卷 - J314. The latter is incomplete.
