Four Taoist laymen, Tuosu 脫俗, Chuchen 出塵, Chaofan 超凡 and Rucheng 入聖, want to find a true master to show them the way. The god Daode Tianzun 道德天尊 comes to enlighten them. They discuss the principle of Taoism. The story is set during the reign of Emperor Daoguang 道光 (r.1820-1850).
