A man called Fang Qing 方卿 is poor and asks his aunt, his father's sister, for help. However, his aunt refuses to fund him. His cousin, however, is in favour of him and secretly gives him some money. On his way to paticipent the imperial examination, he is robbed and rescued by another official, Bi Yunxian 畢雲顯. Bi's mother wants to marry her daughter to Fang. Eventually, Fang passes the exam with the highest score and marries both his cousin and Bi. | |||
