A man named Lan Fangcao 蘭芳草 marries another woman, Xu 許, after the death of his ex-wife. Lan has two sons with his ex-wife and Xu has one, named Jizi 繼子. After Lan and his two sons leave home to make a living, Xu abuses her step-daughter and step-granddaughter, while her own son Jizi secretly helps the latter two. Eventually, the whole family is reunited and Xu is punished. The story is set during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). | |||
