A girl called Zhuang Zhenrong 莊珍容, whose boudoir is entitled Lanxiangge 蘭香閣. Zhuang lends money to a poor scholar named Qi Wenting 祁文廷 in the hope that Qi will pass the Imperial Examination and marry her. However, after passing the exam, Qi doesn't want to keep his promise. Zhuang is so hurt that she commits suicide. A man called Chao Bicheng 巢必成 knows this and beats Qi severely. Eventually, Zhuang reincarnates and marries Chao, who has been a military commander. This story is set during the reign of Jiajing 嘉靖 Emperor (r. 1522-1566).
