再生緣寶卷 is the sequel of 絵図新編龍鳳配宝巻-WUL. 龍鳳配 and its sequel 再生緣 are popular narrative baojuan with the theme of predestined marriages, retribution of acts with scenes of war between Yuan dynasty and Chaoxian 朝鮮. The stories from these two baojuan is highly likely to be adopted from one of the most well-known work of 彈詞 from Qing dynasty, 再生緣 written by Chen Duansheng 陳端生 (1751-1796?) in Qing dynasty. There are various forms such as Yue opera 越劇, Huai opera 淮劇 and Huangmei opera 黃梅戲 called Meng Lijun 孟麗君 all originated from this work. [QJ]

The cover and the title page give the title 繪圖再生緣寶卷。 In the begining of the first, the title is 再生緣卷接上文。At the beginning of the second volume, the title becomes 再生寶卷下卷開。Above the illustration on the cover, the title consists of a circular and diamond-shaped printed type:宣講勸善民間故事。

[上卷] Continue the story in 龍鳳配, Huangfu Jing 皇甫敬 and Wei Huan 衛煥 are captured by the 神武道人 of Chaoxian 朝鮮. Huangfu Jing wants to commit suicide, however he has a dream from which a God told him that he will be saved by his son and daughter and have a reunion if he maintain his loyalty 忠義, otherwise he will not be able to return to his home.
In fact, Peng Ruze 山东巡抚彭如泽 was a mensheng 門生 of Liu Jie 劉捷 and he was asked by Liu Jie to harm Huangfu Jing. So he puts the blame of the loss of the war on Huangfu Jing and claims that Huangfu Jing has surrendered to the enemy. The emperor is furious and ordered the whole family of Huangfu Jing for capital punishment. Thankfully, a relative of Huangfu Jing in the court sends a word to the Huangfu family first to warn them of the impending imperial edict.
Shaohua 少華 and a servant named Lü Zhong 呂忠 are persuaded to escape. On their way, they meet with Xiong Hao 熊浩. They head to 黃鶴山 to learn the 黃鶴道 and to practice other skills.
The rest of the Huangfu family are arrested and sent to the capital under custody. On the way to the capital, the carriages of prisoners are robbed by the outlaws from Chui Tai mountain 吹台山. It turns out that those outlaws are led by Wei Yongda 衛勇達, whose real name is actually 衛勇娥 and the daughter of 衛煥 in disguise as a man.
Now that Shaohua is out of the picture, Liu Kuibi 劉奎壁 pressures his mother claiming that he will not marry anyone else other than Meng Lijun 孟麗君. His mother writes a letter to her sister Queen Liu, and they eventually obtain an imperial edict from the emperor to matchmaking Kuibi with Lijun.
Hearing the news, Lijun escaped with a servant in disguise as a man. Lijun plans to take the state exam so that she can be appointed as high officials so that eventually she can take revenge. Lijun leaves a note to her family that they could make Su Yingxue 蘇映雪 as replacement for the marriage with Kuibi. Yingxue is left with no alternative, so she decides to kill Kuibi on the wedding day instead. The attempt fails and Yingxue jumps into the river.

Yingxue is saved by a passing boat of the right premier minister Liang. Liang took her as a daughter of honor.
Disguised as a man, Lijun now has changed her name to Deng Mingtang 鄧明堂. She encounters rich merchant Tang Ruoshan 唐若山 who took her (afterwards as Mingtang and“him”) as a son of honor. Tang supported him to take the state exam and he got first prize 解元.
The emperor sends Kuibi to quash the rebels in Chui Tai Mountain. Instead, Kuibi is captured and beaten.
During the procession in celebration for Mingtang, he picked up the “ball of marriage”繡球 thrown by Yingxue 映雪, they are then scheduled to be married.
Japan now joins Chaoxian 朝鮮 to invade Shandong. The emperor invites heroes from the country to attend a martial competition in the capital, the winner of which will be appointed as grand general 大元帥 to defend Shandong. On 黃鶴山, the immortal 仙翁 gives four treasures to Shaohua and Xionghao, telling them that it’s time for them to go and they can use these treasures to fight the 神武道人 of Chaoxian. Shaohua and Xiong Hao participate in the competition in the capital and achieve first and second place. They are then joined with the army from Chui Tai Mountain. Together, they defeat the 神武道人. They reunite with Huangfu Jing and Wei Huan. They also intercept a message from Liu Jie 劉捷 to Wu Bikai 烏必凱, as evidence of him being traitor.
The emperor puts Liu Jie to justice and awards titles to all those with merits. The story ends with the emperor married Huangfu Changhua as the Queen and Shaohua married 孟麗君 as wife，蘇映雪 and 劉燕玉 as concubines. [End of 再生緣, QJ]
