Liu xiang baojuan tells the story of a perfect young woman, Liu Xiangnü 劉香女, who resists all attempts to turn her away from practicing piety and ascends to Western Heaven as a result. After hearing a nun preach, she devotes herself to lay Buddhist practices of vegetarianism and nianfo.
