Yan shou di yi shen yan edited by Yugu laoren 愚谷老人, and it was compiled into the Xuehai leibian 学海类编 in 1831 and published by the Hanfen lou 涵芬楼 in 1920.

There are twenty-eight discourses in the book, citing various books from previous generations, discussing abstinence and other ideas of nourishing life. It opposes the fangzhong shu 房中術 (sexual practice), criticizes the dangers of indulgence, and cites many cases. It also cites the views of Confucian scholars such as Cheng Yi 程頤 (1033-1107) and Zhu Xi 朱熹 (1130-1200).

The book begins with the words 宋 愚谷老人撰. Many discourses of the book are the same as Yu Yan 俞琰 's "Xi shang fu tan" 席上腐談, who lived around the 13th or 14th century. The 23rd discourse is from the book "Zhonghe Ji" 中和集 by the Yuan Dynasty Taoist priest Li Dao Chun (c. 14th century). The Ming literati Li Shuncun 李舜存 (1499-1559), also named Yugu 愚谷 by himself, compiled many Confucian texts. It is possible that he also compiled this book.
