This book is 林兆恩's theory on three teachings, i,e, Buddhism釋, Taoism道 and Confucianism儒. 三教合一（three teachings harmonious as one) is the fundamental purpose. Lin had his own explanation of 三教合一 in the essay of 三教合一大旨.

On the center of each page（版心)there is the title三聖正宗. On the prefaces, there are titles as 三教主真經 and 三教正宗. The author put the title as 三教正宗統論 in the author's preface.

The reprint date of this collection, according to page 9, is"中華民國戊寅年蒲月穀旦".中華民國戊寅年can be 1938 or 1998. According to the reprint introduction on page 3, the original text was moved from 南洋 to 台灣 in 民國五十九年（1970)年, so the reprint date should be later than 1970. On page 46, there is a publication date for an earlier copy of part of the collection:同治嵗次壬戌蒲月”.
