According to one advertisement published on September 16, 1942, it indicated the intended audiences of this text, including book collectors (cangshu jia 藏書家) and Buddhists who admired eminent monastics and who researched monastic history (佛教徒之景慕尊宿並妍究僧史者). Several editions were reprinted from the 1980s to the early 2000s.
