Draft Ontology

Essential Data

Page Name

These are unique to each item in the CRTA. They are made up of the authoritative title (whichever seems to be the most representative) plus an identifier code, to distinguish this particular item from others sharing the same title.

Identifier Code

This is a unique identifier that is based on the corpus from which the item was taken. For example, if a given reprint set has been tagged as HCH, and this is the first item in the corpus, this item might be HCH1.

Titles

These can include: cover title, running title, expanded title. First item in list is considered the authoritative title and will be used when displaying brief information about the item

Place(s) of Publication

Place names associated with where the item was printed. These should be recorded exactly as given in the original printing, even if the place name is now obsolete. Alternate names for the same location will all be part of a single place name page (eg. 金陵 will redirect to 南京, 北平 to 北京, etc.)

Creators

List of people or institutions who were involved in some way with the creation of this item, with a description of the role they played for each. Cited names should be given, and alternate names can be linked together to a single contributor page (戴傳賢 and 戴季陶 will both link to the same page, for example)

Dates of Production

Text date as originally recorded, a normalized universal date in CE if possible, also text description of what the date indicates (block carving, printing, etc.) Either the date of block carving, printing, or best guess as to year of production based on textual evidence. The precision of this data will vary a great deal between items.

Publisher or Block-Holder

Name of the publisher or the printing house that held the printing blocks (eg. XX堂藏板)

Genre-Specific Data

Print Run and List of Issues

For periodicals, a full list of issues, date of publication for each, and any important information for this timeline (eg. if the place of publication changed at one point)
