註疏 Commentary

[Zhang Wanrong] Zhang Sanfeng 張三丰 is a famous Daoist said to have lived between the end of the Yuan and the beginning of the Ming periods (13th-14th centuries). He contributed greatly to the development of Daoism in Wudang Mountain 武當山. He was believed to have become immortal through inner alchemy cultivation and was registered by the imperial court. He is also regarded as the founder of Taijiquan 太極拳 in legends and novels.

The Sanfeng quanshu is a collection of writings both ascribed to and about Zhang Sanfeng, including biographies, legends, essays on Daoism and inner alchemy, admonitions to the world (moral tracts), and poems. In fascicle 7, there are also some scriptures (九皇經, 度人經, 菩提經…)

The editor Li Xiyue 李西月, also known as Li Hanxu 李涵虛 (1806-1856), is the alleged founder of the Western Branch (Xipai 西派) of late neidan. He claimed to have received instructions on neidan from Zhang Sanfeng.

[Vincent Goossaert] Most of the contents of the collectiona re the products of a Zhang Sanfeng spirit-writing cult in 1840s Sichuan. There is another edition in the Chongkan Daozang jiyao.
