註疏 Commentary
It is difficult to identify Yu daoren 愚道人. Although Fang Yizhi 方以智 (1611-1671), a famous literatus, scientist, and monk, once called himself Yu daoren, the author is not him, according to the content and date of the text. The 中國美術家人名辭典 mentions a Yu daoren who specialized in painting bamboo, and his works appeared in the 東南日報 特種副刊金石書畫 第二期 in the 1930s.
In the preface and postface, it is mentioned that the author used the text of a friend, Huang Yuexuan 黃月軒, and was financially supported by him for publication, who is a philanthropist and member of the Tongshan she 同善社 (Fellowship of Goodness) and the Hong wanzi hui 紅卍字會(Red Swastika Society).
