註疏 Commentary
- [Daniel Burton-Rose] The assertion in the prefaces is that Peng Dingqiu 彭定求 (1645-1719) taught these three scriptures in the Peng patriline school and then composed the seven disquisitions. The explicit contention in the prefaces is that, if the reader wishes to emulate the Pengs in achieving success on the examinations and in office, they too should recite and promulgate these texts.
The historical Dingqiu did learn the Taishang ganying pian from his father as a child, and promoted the Wenchang Yinzhiwen, but was not associated with Thearch Guan’s Scripture Awakening the World. His historically reliable works do not include the “Miscellaneous Disquisitions of Master Peng Ningzhi”. There are five known extant editions of Yuan zai bi du shu: those of 1800, 1839, 1843, 1869, and 1892. Yuan zai bi du is the latest known woodblock edition. It is the only one not to include the “Miscellaneous Disquisitions of Master Peng Ningzhi” and to drop the character shu 書 ("works") from the title.
