註疏 Commentary

Along with Dao De Jing, 莊子 has been regarded as one of the two founding texts of Daoism, and the alternate title of the text 南華真經 came from Zhuang Zhou's Daoist posthumous title 南華真人 (lit. The Perfected Master of Southern Florescence).

This version of 南華真經 includes the annotations from Guo Xiang 郭象 (252-312 CE) and a series of commentaries penned by Cheng Xuanying 成玄英 (608-669 CE) based on Guo's annotations.

Authorship Russell Kirland had questioned the widely assumed authorship of Zhuangzi and contended that Guo Xiang was instead the "was the actual creator of the 33-chapter text of Chuang-tzu, which all readers since Kuo’s day—Chinese and non-Chinese—have read", and casted doubt on external accounts or data regarding the "historical Zhuangzi" such as Sima Qian's Records of the Grand Historian.
