The early version of this text was compiled in the field (menlei, 門類) of Zunsheng 尊生 (venerating life) in a series of collection (congshu, 叢書) called Yimen guangdu 夷門廣牘 (Extensive Texts from the Peaceful Gate) by the Ming scholar Zhou Lüjing, 周履靖, style Meidian daoren 梅颠道人. Later on, it was included in the Zangwai daoshu. It is in the content of Yimen guangdu that the author of this text, Lianxing neizhi 煉形內旨, was an anonym in the Ming period (1368-1644).
