註疏 Commentary
In the spring of 1847, there was no rain in Changsha, Hunan Province, and people prayed for rain many times, but it did not work. An official was a student of Ji Shenzhai 紀慎齋, so he followed his writings to pray for rain and was successful.
Ji Dakui 紀大奎 (1756-1825), also known as Shenzhai 慎齋, was an official and a literary scholar. He was deeply into Yijing 易經 and could predict the future. His method of praying for rain was also related to the Yijing.
There are also many editions of Ji Shenzhai xiansheng qiuyu quanshu 紀慎齋先生求雨全書 (Master Ji Shenzhai’s complete book of rainmaking).
