註疏 Commentary

[Zhang Wanrong] Qiu Chuji (1148-1227), Master Changchun 長春祖師, was a disciple of Wang Chongyang 王重陽(1113-1170), the founder of the Quanzhen School, and allegedly created the Longmen lineage, which had a profound influence on inner alchemy. This book is a collection of his discourse records 語錄, with his biography. It is a style of writing often used by Quanzhen masters to explain teachings and practices through dialogues with disciples or others. This text consists of three parts.

1. "Changchun zushi yulu" 長春祖師語錄

An earlier version is found in the "Qiuzu Quanshu" 邱祖全書 of "Jiyizi daoshu shiqizhong" 濟一子道書十七種 (the first half of the 19th century), edited by Fu Jinquan 傅金銓, which is entitled "Qiuzu yulu" 邱祖語錄, and contains two more paragraphs than this text. And it is also in the "Sancheng jiyao" 三乘集要 (1872) of Ren Yongzhen 任永真. It discusses mainly the inner alchemy ideas of Quanzhen school, for example, "Xingming shuangxiu" 性命雙修 (integrate cultivation of inner nature and life-endowment)

2."Xuanfeng qinghui lu" 玄風慶會錄 Record of the celebrated encounter with Daoism

This is a record of a meeting between Qiu Chuji and Genghis Khan (1162-1227), which mainly explains the idea of the Daoist Way of ruling without doing anything. On the one hand, it explains the idea and method of longevity, and on the other hand, it exhorts Genghis Khan to respect the Dao, love his people, and reduce killing and warfare. Compared to the version in the Zhengtong Daozang (DZ176), it does not have a preface at the beginning, but the author and time are indicated at the end. 歲在壬午夏四月吉日 (1222) 譯語臣 移刺走楚材 譯語太師尚書令 恆國公阿海 宣差便宜使 劉仲祿

3. "Qiu zhenren zhuan" 邱真人傳 Biographies of Immortal Qiu

This is from the 金蓮正宗仙源像傳(Portraits and biographies concerning the origin of the masters of the true line of transmission of the Golden Lotus, DZ174).

[Vincent Goossaert]. The Qiuzu yulu was spirit-written in 1667 by Zhu Yuanyu 朱元育 (fl . 1657–1669) and his disciple Pan Jingguan 潘靜觀: see Mori Yuria, “Kyuso goroku ni tsuite”.
