註疏 Commentary
This is an important work of waidan in the Ming dynasty.
The term waidan 外丹 (external alchemy) conventionally denotes a broad and diverse range of doctrines and practices focused on the compounding of elixirs whose ingredients are minerals, metals, and—less frequently—plants. This designation is often contrasted to neidan 內丹 (inner alchemy).
The words Huangbai 黄白 (yellow and white) usually mean gold and silver, but in this text, yellow means "medicine" and white means "elixir". (鉛稟西方之氣色象，故曰黃者為藥，白者為丹，一藥一丹，是謂黃白。)
The last chapter of Huangbai jing talks about the relationship between waidan and neidan.
