There is a controversy about whether this book belongs to Confucianism or Daoism, and the Siku quanshu 四庫全書 places it under Daoism.
題辭：入小龍門山著書，曰四符，曰八樞，曰十二微符，言合樞，言奧微，言蘊也，總二十有四篇，以按一歲之氣，號之曰凝道記。
