This book tells the story of Emperor Wu of Liang 梁武帝 (464 - 549). The heroine of this scripture is Liang's wife, Empress Xi 郗. She was punished for her aversion to Buddhism and her cruel treatment of monks. Eventually, she was transcended by a Buddhist called Zhigong 誌公. In this book, she also transcended her husband during the Hou Jing riots (侯景之亂).
