This book tells the story of Emperor Wu of Liang 梁武帝 (464 - 549). The heroine of this scripture is Liang's wife, Empress Xi 郗. She was punished for her aversion to Buddhism and her cruel treatment of monks. Eventually, she was transcended by the Monk called Zhigong 誌公. In this book, she also transcended her husband during the Hou Jing riots (侯景之亂).
